My work starts with people.

For more than a decade I've directed and produced character-driven documentaries and news specials — and picked up a couple of Emmys along the way. The hundreds of phone calls and interviews that went into that career taught me so many valuable things, but one thing always seemed to matter most: how I showed up and how I listened made all the difference between getting an answer someone's given forty times and getting the thing they've never said out loud.

I call this approach Documentary Intelligence™ — because it turns out it works with or without a camera. I teach it to the teams who tell your stories — marketing, comms, video — so their questions get better and their narratives get truer. I bring it inside organizations as narrative listening: hearing what your people actually think, straight from them. “But Amanda, do you still direct?” Hell yeah.
